Fees

When supplying legal services, Karel Jandus, Attorney-at-Law charges only the fees that in accord with the Czech Ministry of Justice Regulation No. 177/1996 Coll. on attorney's fees and the compensation of legal professionals for the supply of their services (attorney rates), as last amended).  His office bases his fees both on hourly rates and monthly fees. He also uses other methods of compensation such as percentage-of-value-based compensation and non-contractual compensation.
Karel Jandus, Attorney-at-Law works in accordance with the rules for professional ethics and competition of attorneys in the Czech Republic, wherein attorney's fees must be both adequate and reasonable. When assessing the size of a fee, the following specific issues are taken into consideration:

  • The negotiating capabilities and the options before both the attorney and the client.
  • The extent of the client's knowledge of the conditions on the market for legal services.
  • The knowledge, experience, reputation and capabilities of the attorney.
  • The extent and character of the attorney-client relationship.
  • The client's time constraints with respect to the handling of the matter.
  • The level of difficulty and uniqueness of the facts and the legal issues involved in the matter.
  • The likelihood that the attorney will have to reject other work in order to handle the work of the client.

In addition to the above-listed fees, the attorney is entitled to the reimbursement of reasonable cash expenses incurred in the providing of legal services (this specifically applies to court and other fees, travel expenses, postage, telecommunications charges, expert appraisals and opinions, translations, transcripts and copying services). The reimbursement for such expenses can also be arranged for on the basis of flat charge.
The above-listed fees do not include any cash expenses or the statutory VAT surcharge.
Upon the hiring of the attorney by the client, the parties sign an agreement for the supply of the respective legal services. The type and level of fees to be charged for these legal services are specified in this agreement. It is common practice to request that the client put down a retainer for legal services that are to be supplied.
